Que Sera Sera

Illustration Collaboration | Private Commision

About

In the depth of COVID 19 Lockdown, fellow Illustrator/ Animator Isobel Knowels reached out to me to commission a special gift for her friend Sera’s upcoming 40th Birthday. Separated by restrictions, with no end in site we worked virtually together. To bring Sera’s childhood dream of operating a local “Dairy” in New Zealand. Better known as a Milk Bar in Australia. Bodega in NYC. Or more generally, a corner store.

Over a series of weeks Isobel and I sent roughs back and forth. Me concetrating on the Character illustration of Sera and her partner. As well as the shop architecture. While Isobel created items to stock in the shop based off some of Sera’s favourite things. We topped it off with a portable speaker and a bottle of Jameson Whiskey in her bicycle basket.

Work In Progress

The file was delivered to Sera digitally in lockdown. Her partner recorded the two of them, as they investigated the image for all the inside jokes and details Isobel had woven into it. Sera was emotionally overwhelmed with the result. Which was beautiful to witness as a creator.
