Dear Landlord is a free, online self-help tool for Victorian renters commissioned by Non-profit legal service Justice Connect. Designed to support renters to understand their legal rights. In early 2021 new rental laws came into place in Victoria and Justice Connect needed a suite of videos and illustrated assets they could use across social media to promote the app. Working with Character and Production Designer, Sylvie Le Coutuer I animated and Art Directed.

Justice Connect had a very clear vision. The entire Dear Landlord project was focused around using plain language to assist renters.
So the video and illustrated assets needed to feel accessible and warm.
Justice Connect had very specific profile descriptions for each of the characters.
They also had some existing assets illustrated in a rough, painterly style that Sylvie used as inspiration for the final character design.
We used a hand made aesthetic and textures to invoke a human touch.
The Dear Landlord tool went won Best in Class in the Social Impact Category for the 2021 Good Design Awards.
Where it was commended for it’s overall human-centred design.
